Description: Flash (or Adobe Flash) is a technology used on many internet websites to display animated content and graphics, in our case our entire navigation menu. Flash is still not automatically integrated in every browser and sometimes need to be installed manually when the automatic download does not work. The software needed to display flash content is entirely free, and can be downloaded by any user.

Problem: if you visit a website using flash technology without having the required software installed, this might result in display problems for all or part of the content.

Solution: Flash technology has been built so it will prompt users visiting a flash enabled website without having the necessary software installed to automatically download and install the software. In other words, if you don’t have flash and you com on our website, your browser will ask you if you want to download everything you need to display the website. Should this not happen, for any reason, you still can manually download the software, it is very easy, and you can find the latest version here: http://www.adobe.com/de/products/flashplayer/

Description: pop-up blocker are a useful tool to prevent unwanted ads and other unwanted windows from opening when you browse the internet. We all know how annoying these pestering pop-ups van be, so blocking them sounds like a great idea. Many recent browsers have integrated pop-up blockers, as do add-ons like the Google or MSN toolbar. Windows XP service pack 2 has similar features integrated into its code.

Problem: pop-up blocker don’t always prevent unwanted windows from opening when you browse, sometimes they also prevent important windows from opening, especially with online shops - they often rely on dialog windows to confirm you wish to add items to the basket, or during checkout. Usually pop-up blockers ignore these dialog windows, but if the settings are set to a very aggressive level, it could still happen, and thus prevent you from using the shopping cart in our gothic shop.

Solution: should you experience problems when adding items to the basket or should the payment window not open during checkout, the problem could be the pop-up blocker. In that case you’re using, but it’s usually very easy. For example, in the case of Windows XP, if the pop-up blocker prevents a window or dialog from opening, a yellow bar will appear across the upper border of the website - you just have to click it and select “temporarily allow”.

Recent computers all have SP2 installed, as have all computers using the automatic updates function. These security features have been implemented to provided added security when surfing the internet. Among these features is a higher security level for your internet browser, that will automatically reject some cookies and prevent the execution of JavaScripts or Active-X elements, as well as a pop-up blocker that will prevent unwanted windows from opening.

Problem: cookies, pop-ups and JavasSripts are often used by websites to provide you with interactive content. Our gothic shop also relies on that technology to provides you with a safe, easy and intuitive shopping experience. In most cases Windows XP can make the difference between harmful intent when using these techniques, and our website works flawless on most computers, but in some unlikely cases, the security features integrated in Windows could wrongfully recognize cookies and JavaScripts as a threat. Should you notice problems when buying clothing from our shop, this could be the source of problems.

Solution: Windows XP displays a warning message contained in a yellow bar, across the top corner of the website, which explains the problem. You can clock on the yellow bar and select to temporarily allow windows to use cookies, Active-X or execute JavaScripts.

SPAMFILTERS & LOST EMAILS

!
Gothic Clothing Store | F.A.Q. - questionmark icon

Description: Spamfilters are used to prevent unwanted and unsolicited advertisements from polluting your email accounts, these annoying emails known as spam. Spamfilters read all incoming emails and try to recognize unwanted emails and automatically delete them for you. Users of freemail accounts like GMX, AOL, MSN, Yahoo or Hotmail automatically benefit from the advantages of spamfilters, users of email programs like Outlook, Thunderbird or Eudora must install these spamfilters as add-on.

Problem: Spamfilters sometimes mistake legit emails as unwanted spam, and the error ratio is quite hig, it is not uncommon at all that emails you really would have liked to receive end up in the jumkmail folder before you got a chance to read them. Most users don’t bother to check the junkmail folder to see if an important message accidentally ended up there, and they think they never received the email, in spite of the email being there! It’s just not in the inbox, but the junk. This unfortunately sometimes happens with our order confirmations too, or with replies sent to customer inquiries.

Solution: just look in your junkmail folder from time to time, or put us on the list of trusted websites - this is of course only possible if you use Outlook, Thunderbird or similar email programs where you can configure the spamfilter yourself, if you use freemails, there isn’t a lot you can do. You should just know that we always reply to all email inquiries sent to us, so if you don’t receive any email from us, it is either because we never received your email, or our reply did not arrive with you. We always reply, always.
